I honestly thought that I’d have a full blown post at this point compete with all the details and photos..and most importantly all the feels that this night, and this month bring to my little creative heart. But here we are at night, with a super tired mama mind and body, unclear if if what Im about to type will even make sense…so essentially it’s a freefall super fast zip trip through my head about this little tradition of ours…Ladies and gents…Our 4th Annual Potter Night…
Yeah, I know, celebrating a birthday now in Covid Lockdown won’t be the same…but it is what it is, and there’s certainly no fun in moping around about it. I’ll tell where there is fun, though…its right where you create it!;) There’s always fun to be had, you just gotta want it. So, all my little May babies..and possibly even June babies (sorry, guys, just doing the maths here on our health stats, and it doesn’t look good), if you’re a bit stuck for ideas, this one is for you! (Also I started writing this a while ago, so, this now extends to us July babies…and August, September, October?)
So we don’t have to do this. This whole Valentines day friendship gift vibe. There is NO pressure to do it. My kids don’t beg me to do it. (although now after years of doing it, and being involved in the whole process, they’ve now come to expect that we do it)…So,know that there there are zero external pressures on us to do these kind of things, but if there is a way I can show my kids small and sweet little ways to be kind and spread a little sunshine in an easy fashion to others, and thus help lay the foundations for gracious and thoughtful grown human beings in the future, then HELL YEAH I’m going to take the time to make little class Valentine gifts!
Yes, I’m going to take precious time I could have been vegging out on Netflix or catching up on old blog posts half way written, and instead, spend it getting cramps in my right hand from cutting out labels and helping my staple them to little trinkets that say, “HEY, YOU! You’re cool. I see you. I like you. And you’re awesome just for being you.”
And each year that passes (aka with each new baby we add to the brood), I try to make this easier on myself, because Continue reading
Guys…my love for holiday celebrations are well documented, I think. And as an extention of that, my love for seasonal holiday pyjamas follows neatly on trend…but its always just been Christmas jam-jams and Easter…And its been like that for years now, as it was also nicely timed with the kids needing new pyjamas round about that time. So there was always some practicality to it all…HOWEVER, I think we can all agree that we knew this day was coming…ladies and gents, I give to you….HALLOWEEN Pyjamas!
I know, I know..i’m just 20 cats and a pair of knitting needles short of being the crazy cat lady who’ll knit seasonal holiday attire for my garden knomes…But I’ll be darned if I stopped! It makes not only my kiddies happy, but it makes me happy too…And being happy about them being happy is like a crazy happy game of Inception! So clearly I have no intention of stopping!…But also, for the record, I don’t own any garden knomes….or cats…knitting needles. (But Whiskey, our dog, knows she may have escaped Halloween jamjams, but Christmas is a sure bet! – No ‘fur’ real, she gets jammies too.)
Now, I know that there’s a whole gang of you who also enjoy it, much like we do. Chances are your kids might need new jams and how dope would it be that they now get holiday jams that are cute…They are..just look!
Or maybe they don’t need, but you’d love to get them some too…HOWEVER, if you’re like me, sometimes the cost of living makes that its just not always financially Continue reading
Guys, we did it! Can I get a halleluja! Despite the levels of insane exhaustion right now. In the face of the crazy schedules we have in our lives right now; with work mixed in with small babies, breastfeeding, pumping, big kids, and 3am-5am feeding sessions (Lawd, give me strength!)…we (finally) pulled off that do-over birthday celebration for our baby girl!
Remember? Our eldest Morgy had her birthday slap bang in the midst of all the chaos when the black plague hit our home back in May. We didn’t have any big plans for parties that day, except for just family coming over to wish her. But if you know the Continue reading
So, before this 19th day of May, 2019, I thought all birthdays were created equal…You know, that all were filled with sweet surprises and excitement built up over months of count downs, crescendoing in heart warming moments of sheer happiness…Along with, as the parent, that ever present bittersweet pill that you have to swallow every year – the one that annually sucker punches you in the throat with the realisation that you baby is swiftly moving further and further away from being an actual baby. (Even though that very same sentiment is beautifully laced with the absolute honor and joy of getting to witness your child grow up, savour and enjoy this world…I mean that is the ultimate goal right? To raise these well adjusted individuals who can go forth into this world and discover, be happy, spread love and grow…)
I thought all birthdays, whilst each very wonderful & exciting, were the same in that its an amazing celebration of another year. But now, having had the Continue reading
Listen up, Agents of the Easter Bunny! Yes, that’s you , mom!(and dad!)
The time has come to get your shizz together..if you’ve already got your basket sorted, pay no attention, move along, swiftly…you’re already cooler than us. But if you’re like the rest of us, and only now about to embark on your annual scramble to get some half decent goods together now – then this one is for you! In fact, so if you’re looking for goods that are not a complete waste of your money, and wont end up as useless junk on the heap of other useless junk on your mantle, then listen up!!!
What’s more is that if you’re just in need of Continue reading
Did someone say gin…In Easter eggs?! Now THAT’S an Easter egg hunt I can definitely get into! Thanks to Sugarbird, a creatively entrepreneurial brand, all the adults have a lot more to look forward to this Easter!
Now, I may have been living under a self enforced rock for the past two years when it came to the gin wave that swept the world, thanks to back to back pregnancies. But I definitely spotted those those gorgeous gin Christmas baubles Sugarbird brought out over the festive season! It was their first bespoke product and it took the market by storm! (Apparently, they sold around 7 TONS of the stuff! Yes – TONS!!) If you missed those baubles, you totally should be sorry! But don’t worry, this Easter you can get in on the action with Continue reading
Alrighty….so you’ve got yourself an Elf. Go, you! (You, sucker you!) 😉 You think you’re pretty prepared to suddenly unleash this amazeball Christmas magic into your home, now with this little dude at your side. You have visions of sugarplums and suddenly well-behaved kids dancing in your head. And thanks to this new North Pole Squatter, youre imagining kiddies so happy and gleeful, with their eyes so wide with wonder that you’re already tapping yourself on the back for being the best-most-fun mom ever! You also have it in your pretty little head that you are going to rock the shishkebab out of posing this Elf every. single. morning..for the ENTIRE month… because you’re so sure you’ve got ideas till the cows come home…
Until, that is, day three rolls around, and you wake up realizing that the kids woke up well before you, and you haven’t set the Elf up anywhere. You break out into a light panic, as the words “holy shit balls” slips from your lips, and start scrambling across your bed, half naked in hopes of making it into your lounge before your kids do…And in your stressed out state, you are now creatively stuck to Continue reading
(Note: this post was written in first week of November, but here we are, almost end November and Im only just publishing it – such is life right now. Busy, busy, busy…or to be more accurate: tired, tired, tired, cant get anything done, so tired.)
Holy smokes guys! If there was ever a busy month for us, it would have to be October. I never realised it before, I always tought it was December, but I was wrong. Like, move over December, you’ve got nuthin’ the Porter October! I mean, firstly, we spend the month working on our Halloween pre-game, decking out our home with all cobwebs, skulls, flying broomsticks, floating candles and witch hats and apothecary jars. We have Harry Potter nights, plan for our annual Halloween bash. And then there’s Parker’s birthday, along with a fun night of trick-or-treating, and who can forget our super exciting gender reveal. And the whole month eventually crescendos with Parker’s birthday celebrations.
Of course, afterwards, I then promptly drop down dead on the floor, like a possessed woman who’s finally been let go…except I collapse into a Continue reading
