If ever there was time we were all about the snack life, it would definitely be NOW, in lockdown! Every minute is a valid snack time, am I right? Granted the same could be said about toddlers in general. 😉 And when it comes to our littles, we’re always trying to find a good quality snack…
Personally, that means even if it only means that we’re ensuring some solid nutritious snacks in between a few other goodies that might go down now and again (4th child realities, people). Its reassuring to know that they are getting natural and organic snacks that are not only delicious but giving them the nutrients good for their development of their young little bodies and brains. Now, thanks to the awesome folks at FreeBees PR & Marketing, along with Happy Family Organics, ONE of you lucky folks will get to enjoy a Happy Family Organics Hamper worth R500.
But before we get there, here’s a quick review of all the snacks we tried out this month. Read carefully, as the answer you need is in the post! 😉

Super Smart Multi grain alphabet Snacks (organic vanilla oat & flaxseed)
These are by far my favourite of their range. As in if I didn’t watch myself, I could polish off a packet by myself. In fact, I needed to keep my older two kids away from it as well, by clearly labelling it as baby food. For I knew once they realised how good it was, they’d raid it every chance they’d get.
Luckily both my babies/toddlers love them too, and even made for great bribes, or just keeping them at bay whilst I cook up dinner.
Of course it also makes for excellent in play park snacks, on the go snacking, or random Sunday afternoon picnicking snacks. You could even partner these with nice little humus, and you have yourself a very well rounded and highly nutritious snack.
They contain vanilla, oats, organic buckwheat, flax seeds, and 160mg of Omega-3 (ALA) – as in the plant based version of Omega -3. (which are fatty acids that are integral to many aspects of health, especially children, including brain function, heart health, and immunity)
It must be noted that it also does contain about 2 grams of sugar per serving (but about 3 of these crackers make up 1 serving)However, they don’t contain any known allergens, and are non-GMO!
They have cute little letters embossed on them, that make for a fun opportunity in letter recognition, and were a great tool in helping my little Yuriko do a little game of matching letters. (But let it be known, that the game does not last long, as she chows them once she gets it right)
With their indulgent flaxseedy flavour, they actually remind me a bit of those delicious Lactation cookies I make (see recipe here)- so be warned mamas, they are addictively good!
Only down side is that I struggled to find them in stores. Granted, I’ve not checked out Baby City yet, but everywhere else was a struggle. They’re normally to be found at Pick ‘n Pay, Baby City, Faithful to Nature, Wellness Warehouse, Clicks, select Diskems and TakeAlot. However, I hunted high and low and even on TakeAlot, I couldn’t find these multigrain snacks. But I will keep hunting – we enjoyed it too much to give up just yet. Maybe its just my area, and will keep you posted.
Puffs Organic Grain Snack – Banana & Pumpkin
I love these snacks because not only does Remy enjoy them (I have to pace him) but they are not messy (as in, no stick mess to clean up). They are an organic grain snack that is dusted with organic banana and pumpkin powders, lightly sweetened with real fruit juice concentrate, and enriched with vitamins and minerals, like Vitamin E, and bunch of Vitamin B’s, as well as C,D, calcium and iron. (and much more)
I’m not a big fan of the taste of these (there’s a slight “Spirulina” after taste to it), nor is Yuriko-Mae- although she’ll still snack on it in the car. But Remy will come back every five minutes to get more, as he really seems to enjoy them. They also kind of melt in his mouth, which is a nice little piece of mind for me, as a mother.
Overall I think these are great, however the Strawberry & Beet flavour tastes better to me. It must be said though that the multi-grain snacks (cookies) are still Remy’s favourite, but these are a very close second! Once more, they don’t contain any known allergens and are non-GMO.
Food pouches
Guys, Happy Family Organics actually have a massive range in their food pouches – HUGE! For baby, toddler as well as for kids. We were sent the ones for tots, and they were definitely loved. (and we bought more, but the ones for babies) My kids usually love food pouches, so it’s no brainer that they loved these too. I mean the convenience of it alone is enough to keep me coming back for more. But what makes Happy Family Organics so great then? Well its what they put in them that makes it so good.
They’re stuffed with superfoods, and vitamins and minerals that help support brain health, for eg. with the organic bananas, mangoes, spinach and coconut pouch, each pouch contains 20mg of DHA and 100mg of choline making this it truly wholesome, on-the-go eating. Not to mention, your kid gets also gets 45% of their daily value of their Vitamin C intake.
Or as in the case of the organic bananas, beets and strawberry Super Smart Happy tot pouch, you get 10% of your daily value Potassium, 20mg DHA (DHA is essential for neurological and visual development and purported to treat certain health problems in children, such as allergies, asthma) and 50% of your daily value Vitamin C . Thats a WHOLE lot of goodness stuffed into one little pouch.
I love that each pouch clearly states what the nutritional content is, and that it does slightly differ depending on which flavour you choose. So yes, I see in comparison to another firm favourite food pouch, the protein content of Happy Family Organics are a bit lower. And I saw that the sugar content is also slightly higher in Happy Family Organics, however, the overall nutritional value and vitamin and mineral content is excellent.
One word though, the price point of all of these goodies is notably high. Especially in comparison to other seemingly similar products on the market, and so as a mom of many kids, not to mention just a person living in heavy economic times, this is a very real facet to consider when wanting to buy these goods for your kids. So here is something to keep in mind: be clear what you’re looking for in these kind of snacks. If organic, with the promise of superfoods (such as Chia, etc), with special attention to DHA and ALA content is what you’re looking for, then Happy Family Organics is absolutely the way to go.
You can find Happy Family Organics not only at the stores the mentioned above but also:
Babies R Us, Baby Boom, selected Spars,Medicare Pharmacies and online also at Faithful to Nature and BabiesAfrica.com .
Lastly, what I think is really cool about the packaging is that they give you a nice little guide as to whether your baby/toddler would be ready to consume it – which is always helpful!
