How’s the school holidays going for ya, over there, moms? You still rocking it? Gotta tell ya, this year Im walking a fine line. Im still fresh at being back to work after maternity and as such I’ve not taken off with them. As a result, I often have some seriously bored kids at home. So I’ve got to make the weekends really count with some fun, yet meaningful & substantive activities. Like the Cape Town Science Centre! They ALWAYS deliver!
We were recently invited by the CTSC, and after spending a glorious few hours in there, I’ve got to say that the science centre remains a wonderful form of entertainment & education for kids! It makes for a great day of fun, science, learning and imaginative play for all kids. Perfect for school holidays! Flip, I remember taking my nephew and nieces there back in the day when it was still at it’s old venue, and I can tell you now, it’s never lost it’s charm. So if you’re looking for a great way to keep the kids busy, and engage their little minds this holiday, while you grab a cuppa or tag along with them, then the science centre is definitely the one for you!
This school holiday, they have put together an awesome programme that’ll do more than just keep your kids busy, in my humble opinion. In fact, the Cape Town Science Centre (CTSC) is celebrating the International Year of the Periodic Table with a jam-packed holiday programme – daily hands-on workshops, busking, demonstrations, camera obscura tours, Science Shows, a variety of holiday clubs and so much more.
I mean just take a look at their offering! This is some seriously fun stuff going on over here.
For entry fees and opening times check it out over here. (Note that some workshops are free, others are only R5 – costs vary quite nicely. Also, it pays to be a member!)
For more information check out their website over here.
Obviously as IT professional, I’m a little biased and pretty excited about the coding and mini makers workshops – hello, 3D printing!!! Yes, 3D printing! And, dude, parachute design? That’s tested out in their very own wind tunnel?!? How much cooler does it get? (come find out! 😉 )
You still have this week to enjoy the this amazing offering. But really, Ive always loved this place, but Mike was so taken with it that we are now seriously considering becoming members!
By the way, my girls’ favourites were the gyroscope…

She’s committing some serious safety violations on this construction site! 🙂
And if you’re worried that your smally is too small for the centre, then fear not, they have a little play area for ages up to 6 years old.

So many workshops to choose from! (see their schedule!) We went to the dry ice workshop, and even though I show them the magic of dry ice each and every Halloween, the fun never gets old!
