So if you caught our kick off into the Christmassy season post, you’d know that we have a new resident in the house. Actually more like a squatter. But a squatter we like. Cause she’s cute, sometimes naughty, a little mischievious, but mostly sweet and straight from the North Pole. And more importantly, represents yet another tool of parental manipulation that we as moms and dads have found to help try and get our kids to listen to us. Lord, help us.
Of course, I almost got caught the day before. But Mom skills? I haz them. With the ultra sneaky stuff the whole elf in you pocket while distracting them manoevre. Like not suspicious at all.But more on that later.
So. Is it working? Somewhat. Is it fun? Yes! Well, mostly. Umm…I sound unsure, don’t I? Well, it’s definitely a FULL yes for the kids, that I’m sure of. For us folks, it’s also been pretty fun, so far. Although there have been a few mornings where it’s been like, “shit, the Elf!”.
But before I go further, and in case you missed that introductory post here, let me be clear. I’ve always wanted this Elf for our home. Whilst we have a crap load of Christmassy traditions, it might seem too much for the next person to still take on, but not in the Porter home. Nope. Here Christmassy traditions are welcomed with open, ugly-Christmas-sweater-decked arms, and encouraged like someone high on hot cocoa and drunk on christmas spirit. In other words, Im nuts about cute and clever ideas that have a christmassy vibe to. Im an easy target for this market. And thats ok, cause my kids love being sucked into this vortex of candy canes ad sugar plums in which I live.
Not to say that thing wont go awry, and that real life doesnt happen. It totally does, and that’s ok. All the more reason to pour yourself into the joyous little things of this life.
But, just to be real, I was also unsure as to whether I wasnt just loading on too much for myself. I mean given my already full plate, I was already imagining the sheer anxst and panic that would grip me on mornings that I had completely forgotten to move the Elf, and hear little feet pattering around the house in search of the new hiding spot. Because, if the elf didnt move, it could only mean that her magic was gone… and cue dramatic breakdown by little people.
Mike so rightfully stated after I explained how the elf and it’s magic works that all he hears is that I have placed another cross on his back 🙂 But the truth is, he’s enjoying it as much as I am!
On the mornings that we do forget- because it WILL happen- instead of anxst, there’s a bit of a thrill of excitement of how we’re gonna pull it off this time. WHilst neither of us have managed to get super creative, I suspect we’ll be better prepared next year..or in my case, better rested with more brain power.
So I thought I’d show what we have been up to with our elf. Granted, there have been alot of just “moved to a new spot” mornings, quicky before we rush out to work at 6:30am. Or because we dont communicate, and the one didnt know that the other one had already prepared something. But either way, the girls have loved it!
First up, her name is Trixy-Poppy. There was a huge debacle around her name. I had so hoped, in my infinite silliness, that t girls would choose a cool name with a nice ring to it. But, nope Trixy Poppy it was. Mike eventually intervened all my “are you sure are you sure, are you sure?”, with “if you want them to name it, let them.” He was of course right. So I did.
By day three, the name had taken hold. Also, I realised, we have a house full of double barrel named girls, so OF COURSE our elf would also have a double barrel! duh! And with that, all the fun truly began.
Trixy-Poppy arrived from the North Pole with a lovely North Pole Breakfast to kick off the festivities. Or at least that was the plan. I had – on day one – forgotten. Like, right off the bat, let’s not forget who you really are girlfriend. I also hadnt gone grocery shopping so there was little to make. I tried sending dad a list of things to grab on his was home.Unfortunately the stores were all out, and he didnt want to risk getting alternatives.(Whyyyy!?) So we made it work.
Once, she also brought back from the North Pole a puzzle of one of our favourite Family christmas pictures. Love it. Why not get yours from Palbros Custom Designs too! Basheer is super friendly and makes quick work of it.
The two games we really enjoyed that night was Fantastic Gymnastics and TOilet Trouble. And would make sweet christmas gift, if not for your family, then for another family that you love!Ps. keep an eye out for our YouTube video on that night – lots of fun!
Trixy-Poppy also decided to make some friends with the local lasses by catching a movie…
They were of course watching Buddy the Elf…The Will Ferrel version. So we totally had stay in our jammies all day and watch it too 🙂
Trixy was also impressed with their decorating skills, but offered a gentle hint that perhaps the top of the tree needed some baubles too. Mom had nothing to do with this. Swear. It was all Trxiy-poppy….Not. 😉
And then, there was toilet humour. Now if you knew me, you’d know that after a lifetime of being subjected to the toilet humour with three elder brothers, Im not a fan. But when you have littl kids, you’ll soon learn that you’ll have to embrace it…So I… I mean, Trixy-Poppy did her thang…
I mean, if Easter Bunny poops jelly beans, then why cant scout elves poop chocolate. 😉
Just goes to show that even the smallest bits of effort really go a long way with kids..if you just sell it right! 😉
Speaking of which, we found the movie on YouTube that goes with this Elf, and truly brings home the idea of what these scout elves are trying to do. And really helps keep those touchy little fingers from trying to poke lil Elfie. Check it out – simply google “Elf’s Story”.
Lastly, we’re doing our letters to Santa this week. We normally keep it for christmas eve, (or even the posting) but not this time! I stumbled across another really cool accessory to these little elves the other day that were so sweet and right up my sentimental keep-sake alley. Will share with you next time.
In fact they are begging me to do it right now, so best I get to it. But first….coffee…with extra coffee…And make it a double..#errmahgurdIneedSleep But Im alone with the kids this week, so that’s not gonna happen!
Hope you’re all having fun with your elves!X
