If there is something that I truly cannot hide, then it is my love for theatre. Be it opera, plays, musicals, or ballet – oh dear, Lawd, the ballet! *swoon*. I grew up going to the theatre from a young age, and had folks who too regularly indulged in theatre. In fact, our dear neighbour was one of SA’s top opera house singers, so many of my days were spent on our sunlit balcony listening to her practice for her next performance. Needless to say, I’ve been itching to get our girls’ toes dipped into a bit of this theatre life. And with the recent Gala launch of Peter Pan at Canal Walk recently, it was clear that our girls have been now also been bit by the theatre bug.
The excitement was already there from the time we queued outside the creative castle-like theatre they’ve constructed in the centre of Canal Walk, by the foodcourt. And this excitement carried all the way through to the inside, where the girls were taking in the lights, and sets, and even enjoying “catching the smoke” before the show began.
The girls really enjoyed it – loved it ,in fact. So much so, Morgy was really “living” every moment that was happening up on stage. And, because Captain Hook played his part so well (he really was enjoyable), at one point Morgan even stopped me from clapping for his performance with a, “Moooom, what are doing?! Why are you clapping for him? He’s a bad guy. Just show him how angry you are with him.” And she waved her fist at him.
Also I had to be sure to let her know in advance that she wasn’t allowed up on that stage. Cause sister over here loves the stage and was talking about how she’s gonna get up there and fly with Peter! Lawdy. And she moves so fast, there would be no way I’dbe able to catch her if she decided to. I mean little Parker still has the mind to always first ask permission for anything when in public. (see my instagram vid here, and you’ll hear her). But Morgy is all about the experience and wanting to live it – now! Her favourite, by the way, was the Tic-toc croc, and Parky’s was Tink.
Speaking of which, this show, is actually quite interactive. It does get the audience involved a bit, and as a special audience tip: if you can, choose the seats to the left of the stage (if you’re facing the stage), about two seats from the front – there’s a special treat for the kiddies that happens there! 😉
It really was a fun little theatre treat, and is perfect as a school holidays activity. The girls didn’t want to leave. But when we DID manage to get them out, they declared full heartedly, “We LOVE the theatre!”. So of course, my night was made.
We enjoyed it so much, that we want to share the joy with you by giving away a family set of tickets to one lucky reader! That’s FOUR tickets to one lucky family! But I’ll get to that now.
