Cute Easter Bunny t-shirt craft for toddlers

Ssssso Easter bunny vibes are pretty alive and kicking in Team Porter’s abode, despite having both parents down with some bug. (By the way this little craft can be modified for any occassion, not just Easter.) So, with me being such a sucker for “festiveness”, and my beasties always eager for crafts, there is never much of a lull in the busy-ness of their activity table, nor the messiness thereof…and my lounge.

So after being inspired by some pinterest over-achievers on the interwebs, I whipped out a few supplies I already had in my home to create these little numbers. And they are cute, if I may say so myself. 🙂 What’s even nicer is that this craft is VERY simple, and quick. So much so, we could fit it in before dinner!
All you would need:

1. Cotton T-shirt(s)
2. Fabric paint (in any color you choose)
3. Pencils with rubbers on, at the back (traditional or the clicker will do)
4. Cardboard (to stick inside the t-shirt so that color doesn’t transfer
while painting)
5. Smaller bowl(s) (to decant some fabric paint into – lest you are a brave
soul who thinks your toddler is not going tip that large container of
permanently marking paint)
6. A bunny rabbit template/silhouette of your choice (google is full of them! I printed mine out on normal paper, which goes at about R2-R4 a page at your local print store, if you dont own a printer.)
7. Scissors
8. Prestik
9. And two little eager lovelies who will probably make this exercise
messier and tricky than could be expected. As per normal.

I prefer cutting the bunny silhouettes out without the help of my kids- thank you. Because doing it with them, may mean :

a) we never actually get to the craft itself.
b) I’ll be screaming watch your fingers about a billion times – thereby
destroying any stress busting crafting normally brings to me.
Or
c) I’d be repeating “give your sister a chance” ad nauseum.
So for the sake of time and my sanity, I just cut it out while Daddy distracts them.

As for the pencils, that shall be used as stamps, you could carve a shape into that rubber if you so desire, ya know! A nice flower, triangle or star if you’re up for it. Or be like me, and not do a single thing to it, and use as is. I left it as a round little stamp, and the effect was enough for me. (But a flower would really be sweet!)

Once your t-shirts are nicely pulled over the cardboards, stick your rabbit silhouette down on your t-shirt with prestik. Make sure the edges of the rabbit are well secured to t-shirt, as you dont want paint to go under the rabbit.

Now, once your rabbit is secured to your t-shirt, your paint is decanted, and pencil-stamps are ready and at hand,release your little artists!

I started off showing them just a few stamps and left them to it, and they did a great job, if you ask me.

Leave the template stuck to the t-shirt until paint dries. That could just be an hour, depending on the weather. But for safety’s sake, I normally just leave fabric paint to dry overnight.

And this is how they turned out!

And big beast is eager to don her “self-made hand-made” t-shirt to her Easter party at school tomorrow!

I really cant stress how easy this was.
